Lyrics
My Name is Maria
© 2024 Robert W. Hausler / Laura Frawley
My name is Maria from a foreign land I come
I have traveled through days of darkness and I have not succumb.
I am but 12 years old, but they have all been hard
My body is changing, so the danger for me grows strong.
The men they start to look at me with a lust in their eyes
But there is little I can do. I know It’s only a matter of time.
There must be some answer
Some compassionate way.
We can both co-exist
Some way I can stay
I seek asylum to escape my impending fate.
Please don't deny me now and wait until it's too late.
Because somewhere on a country road I will be stolen by the sex trade
Then I will be passed among camp to please the worst of men.
I am told you hate me though I am but a child.
I don't want to steal your good life, but I only wish to save mine.
There must be some answer
Some compassionate way.
We can both co-exist
Some way I can stay
My name is Maria from a foreign land I come
